There’s a lot going on in your life and it sometimes feels like a juggling act. Trust us, we know!
How about taking some time for yourself already today? Although the holiday season is just around the corner, including some wellness-enhancing moments in your everyday life is what counts in the long run.
Sometimes it also helps to receive a reminder from someone else - this is why we’ve gathered MiB moms’ best tips for combining work and family and making your everyday life nicer and smoother.
MiB’s top tips for career moms
1. Remember to enjoy. Although there is a lot going on, take a moment every once in a while to appreciate your life and everything you have. These are the moments that will form your child’s memories of their childhood, so make the most of them.
2. Share responsibility. Two parents make two caretakers. If you’re a single parent, don’t hesitate to ask for help from your support network or contact the maternity and child health clinic for advice on where to get help.
3. Cut yourself some slack. Not everything needs to be perfect. The world will keep on turning despite your child’s dirty shirt or the dust bunnies on the floor. The same applies to Christmas preparations as well, cutting corners is totally allowed!
4. Well planned is half done. Make your everyday life easier by planning ahead – buy larger amounts of groceries at once, pick out outfits the night before, etc.
5. Believe in yourself. Motherhood brings countless great things into your life, and many of them can benefit your career as well. You can achieve anything you want – both a career and a family.
6. Take care of yourself. Although family and work matters take a great deal of your attention, spare some for yourself. Are you eating well? Are you getting any “me” time?
7. Don’t forget about your dreams. Constant rushing can make you exhausted and feel like your real personality is fading into the background which can make it difficult to put your best foot forward. Stop for a second, even if you need to force yourself to. Dare to dream about things that are important to you and appreciate yourself.
8. Peer support. It’s important to share your experiences with others in the same situation – they are the ones that will truly understand you. Mothers in Business is the perfect platform for this! We organize a wide range of events where you can get to know other moms. Join Mothers in Business International group on Facebook and follow @mothersinbusiness_int on Instagram - all the events will be announced there!
The power of networking
Are you interested in constantly developing yourself like most of us at MiB? What are your career dreams and aspirations for 2022 and beyond? Here are a few ways in which you can strengthen your competencies at Mothers in Business.
Learn new things! Work evolves and new trends emerge constantly. MiB monitors new emerging themes in working life and offers events to strengthen your skills. Did you know anyone can organize a low-threshold MiB Mingle and invite others to join in one of our Facebook groups?
Network! We are avid believers in the power of networking! You don’t have to put on your heels and makeup and talk shop in formal events. Networking at MiB is fun and can lead to genuine friendships. Some have even formed business partnerships through Mothers in Business. The best ideas are formed through brainstorming, and the best opportunities often come through networks. Our events (both live and virtual) are great for networking, or how about volunteering with us? Read more about what you can do as a MiB active volunteer!
What would you add to this list?
We’re currently gathering feedback and new ideas from anyone interested in MiB’s English-language activities through an anonymous survey. We’d love to hear your views on the kinds of events and contents that you find most interesting. The survey is available via this link until 6th December, 2021 and it only takes a few minutes to answer!
