Blogging as an active
MiB’s blog is a positive arena for writers interested in writing about balancing between career and family life, a more equal family and work life, being a career mom as well as topics related to self-development. Currently, there are two places for publishing blogs at the MiB website: the general MiB blog on the main page and the specifically English-language blog under the MiB International pages. The reason for this division is because MiB’s current content management system (Squarespace) does not enable creating language versions of the pages. Therefore, the content in English is gathered under the MiB International page.
General blog on main page: blogs in English are also published here, as long as the topic of the blog is of wider interest within the MiB community. For publishing a blog here, you need to reserve a slot in the publication calendar (Julkaisutaulukko) on Drive.
MiB International blog: all English-language blogs are published also here. This is also the place for English translations of blogs published in the general blog.
Blog topics
MiB engages in societal advocacy for equality and family-friendliness in Finnish working life, as well as topics concerning combining career and family life. The topics reflect the wider themes of MiB’s work. Blog posts can deal with for example searching for a new job, career changes, coping at work or family leave, career planning, networking, equality in working life, Finnish working culture, DEI themes or other topics that somehow help career moms at different life situations. Also news from local chapters or ideas born out of other MiB activities are themes that fit well in the blog.
Direct advertising of goods or services is not permitted.
MiB’s blog is a public channel that reaches a wide audience. MiB’s social media team (and office workers) make posts about the blog in MiB’s social media channels with the aim of creating discussion. How popular a blog post is and how many times it’s clicked is influenced a lot by the title and the introductory words of the post. Even if your content is brilliant, it will not reach its readers if it’s not shared in a way that gets people’s attention.
Some popular blog topics have included for example:
Remote working with the kids at home - tips for a new daily rhythm
Single parents’ tips for everyday life
Employer: this is how you support your employee with a family during corona
Morning sickness or nausea during pregnancy makes it more challenging to combine work and family
Is it worth for the dad to take family leave?
Who can write in the MiB blog?
The blog is primarily a forum for MiB members and actives. Also the speakers of MiB events have the chance to write a guest blog (vieraskynä) about their topic of expertise. It’s a good idea to mention this possibility to speakers already at the planning stage of an event. Each author is encouraged to write freely in their own style, but in accordance with MiB's strategy, in a positive and solution-oriented way. More information on MiB strategy and values.

Blog posts are short and concise, about (up to) 600-800 word online publications.
Invest in a catchy title as it will arouse the reader’s interest.
Subheadings make your text easier to read.
We hope that your writing is in good English but if needed, MiB International staff or the blog team can edit the text.
If you wish, you can provide the blog team with 1-2 images suitable for the topic of your post.
We’ll add a short introduction and picture of the authors to the end of the blog, so also prepare a short introduction about yourself. We will also be happy to add an image of the author to the introductory text.
MiB reserves the right not to publish texts that do not follow MiB’s values.
The following text should be added at the end of every blog post:
